In August
1940 Brother Roger arrived alone in the tiny French village
of Taizé, hidden away in the hills of Burgundy. In
the monastic community today there are over 90 brothers of
Catholic and Protestant background from more than 20 different
countries. Taizé has sought to share its passion for
reconciliation that reaches beyond the frontiers between nations
or denominations. In Much Hadham our shared church reflects
our search for unity and reconciliation.
Singing is one of the essential elements of worship. Short
chants, repeated again and again, give it a meditative character.
Using just a few words they express a basic reality of faith,
quickly grasped by the mind. As the words are sung over many
times, this reality gradually penetrates the whole being.
Meditative singing thus becomes a way of listening to God.
Next Taize Sunday October 8th 5.00
